A Biodinâmica’s technician carried out field activities in Taratibu, located in the Quitimbas National Park, Cabo Delgado province.
Delson Vutane, Biodinâmica’s technician, held in January’17, field activities in Taratibu, in Block A of Quirimbas National Park (QNP). The work is integrated in his final project of the Biological Sciences degree at Lurio University, named: “Inventory of small mammals (Order Rodentia) in the Quirimbas National Park, Cabo Delgado.”
This project aims to determine the composition of rodent communities in Taratibu, to analyze the trend of the structure of those communities in the rainy and dry seasons, and to use the potential of the rodents as indicators of habitats conservation status to characterize Taratibu.
These activities consisted in sampling with complementary methods used for this group of animals such as i) camera trapping; (ii) Sherman type trapping; and (iii) direct observation of some diurnal species. The work had the support of a teacher of Lurio University and also of Taratibu rangers.
