Training “Understanding, study and promote the sustainable use of biodiversity at the QNP”

Biodinâmica and FCN-UniLúrio and have lectured the Workshop "Understanding, study and promote the sustainable use of biodiversity at the QNP" between the 25 and 29 May 2015

This training was given by Biodinâmica and by the Faculty of Natural Sciences of University Lúrio (FCN-UniLúrio). The workshop was funded by the Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program of WWF and was held in Pemba and Taratibu.

A total of 11 Quirimbas National Park Rangers, one from Taratibu and 8 teachers of FCN-UniLúrio were qualified.

The theoretical component included the following topics:

  • Biodiversity importance
  • Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
  • Man-Wildlife conclict (including identification of dangerous snakes and first-aid)
  • Invasive species
  • Introduction to Global Navigation Satellite Systems, including the use of GPS in biodiversity studies and and monitoring
  • Ecotourism

The practical component involved practical work with GPS (navigation and marking points), photo-trapping and marking of ecotourism trekking routes.
