It is running until July 14 the Public Consultation of the Application of the Quirimbas National Park for the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

Within the application process of Quirimbas National Park to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Mozambique, a Public Consultation of the Quirimbas Biosphere Reserve application dossier is running over the country until July 14, 2017. This public consultation was officially launched at the local and provincial level in the Pemba City and nationally in Maputo on 20 and 23 June, 2017, respectively.

The application of the Quirimbas National Park to Biosphere Reserve will be submitted to UNESCO until 30 September 2017 for approval.

The Quirimbas National Park is internationally recognized as a conservation area of great importance. Becoming a Biosphere Reserve, it would make part of the 681 Biosphere Reserves that make up the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. This integration could bring opportunities for conservation, combating climate change, valuing and sustainable use of natural resources and cultural patrimony, research, knowledge exchange and local sustainable development.
